Enugu NDC Aspirants Reject Primaries Over Violations

Aspirants from the Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have unequivocally rejected the primaries scheduled for the 2027 general elections, citing a flagrant breach of the newly enacted Electoral Act 2026. During a cross-zonal session on June 15, 2026, they issued a nine-point communiqué declaring that no valid primary elections had occurred in the state, neither through direct voting nor any consensual arrangements.

The aspirants accused the leadership, led by former governor Okwesilieze Nwodo, of bypassing statutory guidelines and allowing a small clique to hijack the party structure, thus excluding grassroots members from participating. They condemned the nomination process as lacking transparency and being marred by financial exploitation.

The communiqué warned of a potential mass defection from the party due to perceived injustices and inequities within the nomination process. The aspirants called for the national leadership, including figures like Seriake Dickson and presidential candidate Peter Obi, to discard the current list of candidates forwarded by Nwodo's faction.
