Ex-UNICAL VC Prof. Akpagu Resigns from ADC Amid Crisis

Prof. Zana Akpagu, who served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar from 2015 to 2020, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) effective immediately.

His resignation letter, dated April 26, 2026, was made available to newsmen on a Friday in Calabar. Akpagu cited ongoing unresolved court cases and legal uncertainties that have created instability within the party as the primary reasons for his departure.

He stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and associates, reflecting a significant concern over the party's future amidst these legal hurdles. In his letter, he expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time as a member of the ADC and acknowledged the understanding of fellow party members regarding his decision.

The letter was addressed to Pastor Emmanuel Ugar Ugwakong, the ADC chairman of Ipong Ward in Obudu Local Government Area, indicating a formal communication of his resignation.
