Obi Challenges Tinubu to Defend Records Ahead of 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), called on President Bola Tinubu and other candidates in the 2027 presidential election to directly face Nigerians and defend their records and policy proposals. Speaking at a world conference marking the start of the 2027 presidential and National Assembly campaign season, Obi insisted that candidates should not rely on proxies during their campaigns.

He stated that voters deserve the opportunity to question candidates about their records and plans. Obi emphasized that true leadership requires direct engagement with the electorate, particularly in communities affected by insecurity and other challenges.

He pledged to conduct a nationwide campaign with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, promising to engage voters personally rather than delegating this responsibility. Obi urged that the upcoming election should focus on candidates' competence and character rather than ethnicity or political patronage, encouraging Nigerians to scrutinize candidates' records and proposals before making their choices.
