Obi Challenges Tinubu to Defend Records for 2027 Election

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed a world conference on Friday, marking the start of the 2027 presidential and National Assembly campaign season. He challenged President Bola Tinubu and other presidential hopefuls to defend their records and submit their programs to public scrutiny.

Obi argued that candidates should not rely on proxies during the campaign, insisting that anyone seeking to lead Nigeria must engage directly with voters. He emphasized the importance of empathy and presence in leadership, particularly in communities affected by insecurity and other crises.

Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, committed to personally traveling across Nigeria to engage with voters and address their concerns. He stated that the upcoming election should focus on candidates' capacity, competence, compassion, character, and commitment, rather than on ethnicity or political patronage.

Obi also highlighted Nigeria's economic and security challenges and promised that his administration would prioritize production, investment, and human capital development.
