House Urges Youth Engagement for 2027 Elections

The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Mr. Tajudeen Abba, called for active youth participation to influence the upcoming 2027 elections during a town hall event held at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The event emphasized that the quality of Nigeria's democracy largely depends on the choices made by young people and their civic engagement. Prof.

Julius Ihonvber, a major leader in the House, noted that the youth town hall has evolved into a platform for institutional mechanisms that allow young Nigerians to contribute directly to national policymaking and legislative reforms. Several legislative initiatives aimed at youth empowerment were highlighted, including the passage of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reform bill and the proposed Nigerian Youth Welfare Scheme Fund bill.

Additionally, a constitutional amendment bill seeking to reduce the minimum age for governorship candidacy from 35 to 30 years was discussed. The event also featured discussions on various strategic interventions designed to create opportunities for young Nigerians in the digital and green economies.
