Opposition Urged to Focus on Issues, Not Yari

Transparency Watch, an advocacy group for good governance and accountability, has called on opposition political parties and groups critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to concentrate their campaigns on substantive issues rather than targeting individuals. The group specifically cautioned against making Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, a focal point of their campaigns.

In a statement signed by Cliff Richards, the Director of Public Affairs, Transparency Watch expressed concern that portraying Yari as a scapegoat could distract voters from critical issues as the 2027 general elections approach. The group criticized the increasing trend of name-calling and denigration in political campaigns, emphasizing that campaigns should focus on issues rather than individuals.

It reiterated that Yari's role is to promote the APC's campaign and defend the party's electoral prospects.
