Ombugadu's Defections Reshape Nasarawa Politics Ahead of 2027

Emmanuel David Ombugadu, a prominent politician and two-time governorship candidate from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has recently made headlines with his political defections. Within a short span, he resigned from the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), only to consider returning to the PDP shortly thereafter.

Ombugadu first gained prominence in 2011 when he won a House of Representatives seat under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) platform. He later defected to the PDP, where he contested for governor in 2019 and 2023 but lost both times to Abdullahi Sule of the APC.

His recent resignation from the PDP was attributed to internal conflicts and leadership tussles within the party. Despite joining the APC, Ombugadu has expressed intentions to contest for a Senate seat in Nasarawa North, aiming to replace the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.

His political moves have raised questions about the stability of the PDP and its ability to challenge the APC in the upcoming elections.
