FDP Urges Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso to Support Tinubu for 2027

On September 12, 2026, the Forum for Democratic Patriots (FDP) called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to abandon their presidential ambitions and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 election. The FDP's Convener, Hon. Sani Ibrahim, stated that the ongoing discussions among the opposition regarding who should withdraw from the race indicate that none of them possess the necessary nationwide acceptability, political network, or electoral strength to defeat Tinubu.

Ibrahim acknowledged Atiku's extensive political experience, having contested for the presidency multiple times and served as Vice-President, but urged him to retire from presidential contests, noting he would be 80 by 2027. The FDP dismissed the idea of Obi serving as Atiku's running mate as unlikely to succeed.

The group praised Tinubu's administration for its economic reforms, including foreign exchange market unification and tax restructuring, which they believe are essential for Nigeria's sustainable prosperity.
