HURIWA Calls for Policy Focus in 2027 Elections

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) called on all presidential candidates for the 2027 general election to utilize the 150-day campaign period to engage with Nigerians on policy and development plans rather than resorting to hate speech and divisive rhetoric. In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA emphasized that the presidential campaign should initiate a serious national dialogue about the country's future, moving away from empty promises and exploitation of ethnic and religious divisions.

The organization urged candidates to conduct their campaigns with civility and respect for the rights of opponents and citizens. HURIWA insisted that candidates must provide clear and measurable plans detailing how they would address issues such as national unity, poverty reduction, job creation, and economic stability.

It challenged candidates to present economic blueprints that would transition Nigeria from an import-dependent economy to one focused on production and value addition.
