SERAP Sues INEC Over Alleged N800B APC Fund Diversion

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has initiated legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal High Court in Abuja, case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1426/2026, filed last week. SERAP is seeking a court order to compel INEC to investigate allegations that governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) diverted N800 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for political campaign purposes to support President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid.

The organization argues that this diversion raises significant concerns regarding political finance transparency and electoral fairness, as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. SERAP is requesting that INEC disclose the sources of campaign funds and initiate a formal review to ensure compliance with Section 91 of the Electoral Act, which governs political party financing.

The group emphasizes that the misuse of public resources for electoral purposes threatens democratic integrity and public trust.
