SERAP Urges INEC to Publish Political Donation Limits

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, to disclose and publish limits on political donations within seven days in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This request was made through a Freedom of Information (FoI) request dated August 22, 2026, and signed by SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

SERAP urged INEC to clarify whether it has set contribution limits under Section 91 of the Electoral Act, 2026, and if so, to publish these limits and circulate them to political parties, candidates, donors, and the public. The organization also called for transparency regarding the systems and procedures INEC has in place to monitor compliance with political contribution limits.

SERAP emphasized that transparency in political financing is crucial for fair elections and that voters and civil society must have access to information regarding political financing to ensure accountability.
