INEC Lists Candidates for Kwara 2027 Governorship Race

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the particulars of candidates for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State, officially initiating the race for the Kwara State Government House. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, and his running mate, Bello Mubarak Salau, are among the thirteen candidates contesting for the position.

Political analysts anticipate a competitive election, with Danladi facing notable opponents such as Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Zakari Mohammed from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Youth stakeholders from Kwara's three senatorial districts have remarked that Danladi's candidacy signifies a shift towards generational change in the state's political landscape.

Aliyu Likofu, Coordinator of KNIYF, emphasized that this election could alter the political history of Kwara, as no elected politician from Kwara North has held the governorship since 1999. Danladi, 41, has a background in student activism and legislative leadership, having served as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly since 2019.
