INEC Launches Nationwide Voter Revalidation for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing to embark on a nationwide voter revalidation exercise in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. This initiative was detailed in an internal memo dated April 2, signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran.

The decision to conduct this exercise stems from the need for a credible voter register, a topic extensively discussed during a strategic retreat held in Lagos earlier in the year. The memo indicates that the revalidation will follow a hybrid model, allowing citizens to participate both online and at physical centers established in local government areas and polling units across the country.

To facilitate this process, INEC will deploy voter enrollment devices at two stations at the local government level, with devices assigned to registration areas and polling units. The exercise will be managed by a combination of INEC staff and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), with two personnel assigned to each enrollment device.
