INEC Suspends Nationwide Voter Revalidation Plans

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a directive to Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to suspend public arrangements for a nationwide voter revalidation exercise, which was scheduled to commence on April 13, 2026. This decision was communicated in a letter dated April 4, 2026, signed by the commission's secretary, Rose Oriaran Anthony.

While the public arrangements for the voter revalidation have been put on hold, INEC has instructed RECs to continue necessary preparations for the exercise, including sourcing personnel and preparing voter enrollment devices. The commission expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this change and assured that it is considering the situation carefully.

Additionally, a virtual meeting for RECs, originally scheduled for April 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM, will now be conducted via Zoom, with login details to be shared after the arrangements are finalized.
