INEC Urges Religious Groups to Boost Voter Education in Akwa Ibom

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on religious groups in Akwa Ibom State to intensify their efforts in voter sensitization in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, made this appeal during a meeting with members of the Directorate of Political Governance of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Region 57 at the INEC state office in Uyo.

Effanga highlighted the crucial role that religious institutions play in shaping public opinion and mobilizing citizens, noting that their involvement in voter education is essential for enhancing democratic participation and promoting peaceful elections. He mentioned that the commission will soon commence the revalidation of voter registration to identify the actual number of voters in the country.

Professor Udem Udofia, the State Director of Political Governance for RCCG, stated that the visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the church and INEC to promote responsible citizenship and credible governance, focusing on political education and civic responsibility among church members.
