Iyabo Obasanjo Urges Yayi Against Political Opportunism

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to avoid being an opportunist in the political landscape of Ogun State. Speaking during a live discussion on political hurdles faced by Nigerian women, she emphasized that Ogun West should produce a governor and criticized the trend of politicians seeking positions solely for personal gain.

Iyabo declared her intent to run for the governorship of Ogun State in 2027, expressing confidence in her ability to win. She noted the absence of formal laws guiding the rotation of governorship zones in Nigeria and pointed out that Ogun West has not had a governor, while Ogun Central and Ogun East have had multiple governors.

Iyabo, who recently returned to active politics after a 15-year hiatus, previously represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 but lost her re-election bid in 2011.
