Goodluck Jonathan Plans 2027 Presidential Comeback

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is quietly preparing for a potential return to the presidency in 2027, supported by the Kabiru Turaki faction within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and some allies from other parties. His campaign is centered on a "national unity" strategy, positioning him as a stabilizing figure who could reconcile factions and serve a single term until 2031.

Despite this, the PDP is divided; one faction believes Jonathan can reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another insists the presidential ticket should go to a northern candidate to maintain zoning fairness. Legal challenges also loom, particularly regarding Section 137 of the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits anyone sworn in twice as president from running again.

Jonathan's lawyers argue that his first term was not a full term, a matter that may require Supreme Court clarification. Additionally, significant funding will be necessary for his campaign.
