Gbolarumi Critiques Makinde's Successor Selection Plans

Hazeem Gbolarumi, a former deputy governor of Oyo State, has publicly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde for his intention to select a successor without consulting the leaders of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Gbolarumi made these remarks during an iftar gathering hosted by Yinka Adeniran for members of the Oyo State Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan.

He noted that the rift between Makinde and the party leaders began when the governor indicated plans to announce his successor unilaterally, despite having previously declared his interest in contesting. Gbolarumi emphasized that the party's stakeholders should not be sidelined in such significant decisions.

He also remarked on the historical context of Makinde's emergence as governor in 2019, which was accepted in good faith by party leaders. Gbolarumi expressed hope for a reunion within the PDP, despite the current factional control of the party structure in the state.
