MURIC Calls for Christian Support for Muslim Candidate

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on Christian leaders in Ogun State to support a Muslim candidate for the upcoming 2027 governorship election. In a statement signed by Tajudeen Alao, the Ogun State chairman, and Olaley Damilar, the secretary, the group emphasized the importance of achieving religious balance in the state's leadership.

They noted that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, there has been a predominance of Christian governors, with the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, completing a 26-year stretch of Christian leadership by the end of his tenure. The group highlighted that there has only been an eight-year period of Muslim leadership, which they argue is disproportionate.

They urged Christian leaders to support a Muslim candidate to restore fairness and equity in the political landscape of Ogun State, stressing that this call is made without malice and aims to promote inclusivity and harmony among the state's diverse religious communities.
