Ogun Muslims Demand Governorship Slot for 2027 Elections

The Muslim Advocacy Group Ogun State has formally demanded that the governorship position for the 2027 elections be allocated to a Muslim candidate, highlighting a persistent historical imbalance in the state's political leadership since its establishment in 1976. In a statement made available to Daily Post on Friday, signed by Abdul Semi U Adebesin, the group lamented that out of five democratically elected governors since the state's creation, none have been Muslim.

They argue that their demand is rooted in principles of equity and competition, asserting that it is neither a token plea nor driven by religious sentiment. The group insists that Ogun State is home to numerous highly qualified Muslim individuals capable of leading effectively across various sectors, including public administration and academia.

They urge political parties and opinion leaders to prioritize fairness in the selection process for the upcoming elections, warning that ignoring their legitimate call could foster discontent and undermine the spirit of unity in the state.
