NDC Chieftain Igbokw Urges Swift Resolution of Primary Delays

Maxwel Igbokw, a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed alarm regarding the delayed results of the party's primaries during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday. He emphasized the necessity for the party to swiftly resolve outstanding disputes to preserve unity and strengthen public confidence in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Igbokw advised the party's leadership against imposing candidates and highlighted the importance of transparency in the electoral process. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a deadline of July 11 for parties to upload names of candidates for the National Assembly and July 17 for governorship and state house assembly candidates.

Igbokw warned that the delay in releasing primary election results, conducted two months prior, creates uncertainty among party members and undermines the internal democracy of the NDC. He urged adherence to the NDC constitution to ensure duly elected candidates are submitted to INEC.
