Labour Party Sets Dates for 2027 Primaries

The Labour Party has officially fixed the dates for its presidential and governorship primaries in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The National Executive Council (NEC) approved these dates during a meeting held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

The governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives primaries are scheduled for May 15, 2026, while the presidential primary is set for May 23, 2026. The NEC also ratified the conduct of ward, local government, and state congresses from March 26 to March 31, 2026.

Additionally, the council reviewed recent developments, including alleged invasions of the party's secretariat by hoodlums reportedly sponsored by rogue elements. The disciplinary committee, chaired by Comrade Salisu Moham, has been empowered to suspend members involved in acts of indiscipline.

The Labour Party aims to modernize its membership registration through a hybrid approach, combining digital and manual registration, particularly in rural communities, to enhance democratic participation and improve administrative efficiency.
