Nenadi Usman Elected First Female Labour Party Chairman

On Tuesday, during a convention held in Umuahia, Abia State, Nenadi Usman was elected as the first female National Chairman of the Labour Party, a significant milestone in Nigeria's political history. Usman, who was previously appointed to lead the party's National Caretaker Committee on September 4, 2024, following a leadership vacuum, has extensive experience, having served as a former Minister of Finance and Senator.

Her leadership was affirmed by a Federal High Court ruling on January 21, 2026, which was later upheld by the Appeal Court on April 21, 2026. In her acceptance speech, Usman expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence and pledged to strengthen unity and cohesion within the party.

She also committed to enhancing the party's performance in future elections. Usman acknowledged the support of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and emphasized the need for the newly elected leadership to provide purposeful direction and deepen the party's structure across the country.
