NHRC, APC, and Federal Court Back Election Verification Platform

On Thursday in Abuja, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Federal High Court endorsed a civil society initiative to improve transparency in the 2027 general elections through an independent election results verification platform. This platform, developed by the TAP Initiative and its partners, allows citizens to upload and verify polling unit results independently, aiming to enhance transparency and curb electoral manipulation.

NHRC Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu (SAN), represented by Chief Legal Officer Uzoamaka Ifechi-Fred, emphasized the importance of credible elections for protecting civil and political rights. Tamara Preye, Deputy Chief Registrar (Litigation) of the Federal High Court, noted that such initiatives could help reduce election-related court cases.

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, represented by Sylvanus Yekpe, expressed the party's support for efforts promoting electoral transparency.

Martin Obono, Executive Director of TAP Initiative, stated that the platform empowers citizens to participate directly in election transparency.
