Falana and Adams Warn of Single Candidate in 2027 Elections

During a memorial lecture held at the Airport Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, human rights lawyer Femi Falana and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, expressed concerns about the possibility of Nigeria having only one presidential candidate in the 2027 elections. They criticized the judiciary for interfering in political party affairs, particularly referencing a recent court ruling that affected the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark.

Falana emphasized that such judicial actions could destabilize political parties and undermine democracy, warning that Nigerians might feel their electoral choices are no longer genuine. He called on civil society groups, labor unions, and political activists to defend democratic values and warned that unorganized protests could lead to anarchy.

Adams echoed these sentiments, highlighting a gradual drift towards a one-party system and the need for citizens to speak out against injustices to honor the legacy of late activist Yinka Odumakin.
