Obaigbena Urges Politicians to Focus on Policies for 2027

On a panel at the centenary celebration of the Daily Times of Nigeria held at the THISDAY DOME in Abuja, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of THISDAY and Arise Media Group, called on political leaders to prioritize policy discussions over smear campaigns as they prepare for the 2027 elections. He emphasized the importance of engaging Nigerians in debates on significant issues such as subsidy, exchange rates, tax reforms, and insecurity.

Obaigbena cautioned against reverting to smear tactics, insisting that voters deserve to understand the alternatives offered by political parties. He also discussed the evolving media landscape, asserting that while news distribution methods have changed due to technology, the core responsibilities of journalism remain unchanged.

He urged the media to advocate for presidential debates, stating that Nigerians have the right to hear directly from their leaders. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Senator George Akume, acknowledged the role of a free media in national development.
