Police Investigate Senator Fadahunsi, Borno Commissioner Over Electoral Remarks

Investigations have been launched by the Nigeria Police Force targeting three political actors accused of making inflammatory statements designed to incite public disorder before the 2027 general elections. The individuals under scrutiny include Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East; Sainna Buba, serving as Borno State's Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development; and Danjuma Shekwolo, the Kuje Area Council Chairman based in the Federal Capital Territory.

During a joint security briefing conducted in Abuja on Tuesday, Police Force spokesman Ani Iniedu announced the probe and underscored that utterances prone to provoke citizens—particularly those connected to electoral matters—breach Nigeria's criminal statutes. Law enforcement officials stressed that political figures at any level would receive equal treatment and face no exemptions while under investigation.

Parallel to this inquiry, police continue examining additional election-related matters. The Force confirmed ongoing investigations into 154 individuals arrested during the Osun State governorship election, demonstrating continued enforcement commitment across numerous jurisdictions on election-connected offences.

With Nigeria's 2027 presidential contest approaching, law enforcement agencies are intensifying oversight of political discourse. Similar enforcement actions have occurred throughout previous electoral cycles, including during recent gubernatorial races.

Authorities emphasized that statements crossing the threshold into impermissible political expression would trigger criminal examination irrespective of the speaker's title, office, or party affiliation.
