Opposition Parties Plan Unity Summit for 2027 Elections

The G-100 platform, comprising a coalition of opposition political parties and stakeholders, is organizing a summit in Abuja on August 18, 2026, aimed at fostering unity among Nigeria's opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. This initiative follows consultations with leaders from six opposition parties: the African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, National Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party, and Social Democratic Party.

Salihu Lukman, representing G-100, stated that these discussions were intentionally kept away from the media to allow for candid dialogue on sensitive issues. The consultations revealed a consensus on the necessity for opposition parties to collaborate more closely, requiring significant concessions from party leaders.

The upcoming summit is intended to facilitate discussions on political cooperation, with G-100 emphasizing its role as a facilitator rather than a decision-maker.
