G100's Single Candidate Push Faces Major Setbacks

Indications emerged on Wednesday that the push for a single opposition presidential candidate to contest against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 presidential election may not materialize. Investigations revealed that the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are not fully committed to the G100 initiative aimed at uniting opposition forces.

Although six political parties met on August 31 to support the G100 agenda, supporters of ADC's Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and NDC's Mr. Peter Obi view the effort as ineffective. The concept of a united opposition was initially proposed by Atiku Abubakar, who helped form the ADC.

However, the late entries of Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso into the race have complicated matters. Sources indicate that the feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar is a significant barrier to achieving unity among opposition candidates.
