Opposition Calls for Enhanced Technology in 2027 Elections

On Thursday, a coalition of opposition political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), and ethnic youth groups urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strengthen technology in Nigeria's electoral process to safeguard citizens' votes for the 2027 general elections. This demand was made during a National Post-Election Discourse and Roundtable in Abuja, focusing on the Osun State governorship election and INEC's performance.

Comrade Obed Agu, National Organising Secretary of the Action Peoples Party (APP), stated that the assessment aimed to evaluate the election's conduct rather than declare a political winner. He noted that the Osun election met approximately 92% of the established benchmarks but acknowledged that no election is perfect.

Agu commended the people of Osun for their participation and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory, urging him to govern inclusively. He also praised INEC for its adherence to the electoral timetable and stakeholder engagement, calling for deeper consultations with smaller political parties.
