INEC Commits to Transparent Elections for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every vote counts in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Magdalyn Aku, the Assistant Director of Voter Education and Planning at INEC, made this statement during the 2026 News Agency of Nigeria and Nigeria Union of Journalists Democracy Roundtable held in Abuja.

She emphasized that making every vote count is central to INEC's mandate, not just a campaign slogan. Aku noted the commission's neutrality in the electoral process, focusing on protecting the rights of Nigerian voters.

She discussed improvements in election management, including the transition from Smart Card Readers to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and the use of the INEC Result Viewing Portal for real-time results transmission. Additionally, she highlighted INEC's commitment to inclusivity for persons with disabilities and urged Nigerians to reject vote-buying.

Comrade Grace Ike, the NUJ FCT Chairman, stressed that credible elections require the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, including journalists and civil society.
