Senator Adams Oshiomhole has downplayed concerns that Labour Party's Peter Obi represents a significant electoral challenge to the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential race. Speaking on the TVC News programme Beyond The Headlines on Monday, the Edo North senator rejected the idea that the APC views Obi's political machinery as a major threat .

Oshiomhole attributed Obi's impressive vote share in the 2023 election to temporary political circumstances rather than enduring personal appeal or organisational strength. He pointed specifically to public dissatisfaction with economic management during the final period of former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration as the primary driver of Obi's performance.

Cash shortages and fuel supply challenges during that period, Oshiomhole suggested, channelled voter anger toward the Labour Party candidate rather than reflecting confidence in Obi himself. The senator contended that the conditions which boosted Obi's candidacy in 2023 were exceptional and unlikely to repeat at the same intensity before the next general election.
