Atiku Abubakar Commends Osun Election Outcome

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), commented on the Osun State governorship election, stating it exemplified that Nigerians can collectively defend their votes against intimidation. Following the election, where Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party won against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku noted that the will of the people prevailed despite alleged intimidation tactics by the ruling APC.

He highlighted the significance of Osun voters' organization in protecting their votes, suggesting this spirit could be replicated nationwide for the 2027 elections. Atiku urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its independence and ensure a transparent electoral process, warning against institutional weaknesses that could undermine future elections.

He stressed that the lessons from Osun should not distract from the need for electoral integrity and urged security agencies to refrain from compromising the electoral process.
