Otti Calls for Unity as Labour Party Ratifies 1,211 Candidates

On Thursday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti urged for reconciliation within the Labour Party during a national executive council meeting in Abuja. He warned that internal divisions could undermine the party's chances in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The meeting ratified the outcomes of the nationwide primaries, confirming 1,211 candidates for various electoral positions, including Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as the presidential candidate, who pledged to lead a people-centered campaign.

Otti called on party members to move beyond the primaries and work together to strengthen the party, emphasizing the need for collective action and coordination in campaigning. He also addressed the internal leadership disputes that have plagued the party, urging members to set aside grievances for the party's growth.

Nenadi Usman, the party's national chairman, echoed Otti's sentiments, stressing the importance of unity and collaboration among members. The Labour Party conducted its primaries in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026, following a nationwide digital membership registration exercise.
