Otti Welcomes Abure's Return to Labour Party Ahead of Elections

On Thursday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti stated that former Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure and his loyalists are free to return to the party as part of reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Otti made this announcement during the inauguration of the party's National Work Committee at its headquarters in Abuja.

He noted that the party remains open to reintegrating Abure's members, following the dissolution of the National Work Committee, which included state chairmen aligned with Abure. Otti expressed confidence in the newly elected leadership, led by National Chairman Nenadi Usman, to stabilize the party for upcoming political contests.

He dismissed claims of an opposition summit in Ibadan that sought to adopt a single presidential candidate, asserting that the Labour Party was not part of that agreement. The ongoing tensions within the party stem from a leadership tussle between Abure and Usman's caretaker committee, with Abure rejecting court rulings affirming Usman's leadership.
