Otti Welcomes Abure Loyalists Back to Labour Party

On Thursday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti signaled a fresh effort to unify the Labour Party by welcoming back loyalists of former national chairman Julius Abure. Otti made this announcement during the inauguration meeting of the party's national work committee held at its national headquarters in Abuja.

He emphasized that the party remains open to the return of Abure's supporters as part of reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Otti noted that the reconciliation process has already yielded results, with 25 state chairmen from Abure's faction attending the meeting.

He expressed confidence in the newly elected leadership under national chairman Nenadi Usman, who will lead the party for the next four years. Otti dismissed claims of a single presidential candidate agreement made at an opposition summit, asserting that the Labour Party is not bound by such agreements.

The conciliatory stance comes amid ongoing tensions and a leadership tussle between Abure and Usman's caretaker committee, which has been affirmed by court rulings.
