Oyo APM Candidates Sue Over Local Government Primaries

Thirty-three chairmanship and 351 councillorship candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State have approached the Federal High Court in Ibadan to challenge the reports of a fresh primary election for the upcoming local government elections. The candidates emerged from the APM primaries held on August 3, 2026, which were monitored by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

They are seeking an order to restrain the party from conducting another primary for the same positions, following reports that the APM National Chairman intends to nullify the earlier primaries. The candidates are also questioning whether OYSIEC can accept more than one candidate from APM for the same local government or ward after the commission monitored the August 3 primaries.

Additionally, they are challenging the participation of individuals not listed in the party’s membership register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The APM, its National Chairman, OYSIEC, and INEC are named as defendants in the suit.
