INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections. Originally set for July 11, 2026, the new deadline is now July 14, 2026.

This decision was made following a formal appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which requested additional time for parties experiencing technical difficulties with the online nomination portal. INEC's statement, signed by the commission's chairman, Mohan Kudu Haruna, emphasized the commission's commitment to ensuring wider participation and compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The extension allows political parties an additional three days to upload the necessary candidate details before the new deadline expires. INEC urged parties to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure all required information is submitted.
