INEC Reports North-West Voting Strength Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Professor Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, announced that the North-West geo-political zone maintains its lead in voting population as Lagos State tops the list with 7,488,633 registered voters for the 2027 general election.
The National Register of Voters has reached 103.43 million following the completion of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) verification. The CVR phases registered a total of 10,772,421 new voters from August 2025 to July 2026.
The top ten states by voter registration include Kano, Kaduna, and Rivers, while Ekiti has the lowest number of registered voters at 1,055,708. Male voters constitute 51.75% of the total, while female voters make up 48.25%.
The register will be publicly displayed from October 9 to 15, 2026, and the distribution of Phase 1 PVCs will also begin on October 9. Political party nominations have seen 18 out of 22 registered parties submit candidates for various positions.
