Dele Momodu Warns of Contentious 2027 Presidential Poll

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, stated that the upcoming 2027 presidential election in Nigeria will be a "war" due to the serious competition among various political forces. Speaking at an event at Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State, he encouraged the youth to actively participate in the electoral process, emphasizing that discussions should move beyond theory to practical engagement.

Momodu reflected on his experiences from the 2011 elections, asserting that political contests in Nigeria are intense and often lead to conflicts. He criticized the current political climate under President Bola Tinubu, noting that despite a strong media relationship, the situation remains challenging.

The event was part of the university's library week, aimed at promoting reading and scholarship. Momodu's remarks come amid uncertainties regarding the participation of major political parties, including the African Democratic Congress and the People's Democratic Party, as they await decisions from the Supreme Court regarding internal party control.
