APC Waives Screening for Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in preparation for the 2027 primaries. This decision was made during the party's National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, which took place on May 6, 2026, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

The statement issued by Felix Morka, the party's National Public Secretary, indicated that the waiver was granted in the best interest of the party and was in accordance with Article 13, sections 4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC constitution. The NWC noted that President Tinubu received overwhelming endorsements from various stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum and members of the National Assembly.

The APC has commenced the sale of presidential expression of interest nomination forms on April 28, 2026, with the deadline set for midnight on May 6, 2026. The screening exercise is expected to begin on May 8, 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential election for January 16, 2027.
