SERAP Urges INEC Chairman to Prioritize Electoral Justice in Nigeria for 2027 Elections

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Professor Joash Amupitan, the newly nominated chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to prioritize electoral justice by prosecuting electoral offenders. SERAP emphasized the need to address the culture of impunity surrounding electoral crimes in Nigeria to strengthen democracy and public trust in the electoral process.

The call comes as Amupitan replaces Mahmood Yakubu, who stepped down after his term expired. SERAP also pushed for electoral reforms to guarantee fairer elections in 2027, stressing the importance of holding high-ranking politicians accountable for electoral offenses.
