ADC Rejects 2026-2027 Election Timetable as Unfair

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly rejected the revised election timetable for 2026-2027 released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming it contains provisions that unfairly favor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu. In a statement issued by Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC argues that the new compliance requirements under sections 77 and 82 of the Electoral Act 2026 impose excessive burdens on opposition parties.

The timetable mandates that political parties submit digital membership registers to INEC by April 2, 2026, which the ADC deems unrealistic. They assert that the APC has already begun compiling digital records since February 2025, giving them an unfair advantage.

The ADC warns that the revised timetable and the Electoral Act appear to narrow democratic space and weaken opposition participation. They have called on civil society organizations and democratic stakeholders to scrutinize the timetable and demand fairness in the electoral process.
