Saliu Mustapha, the Senator for Kwara Central and Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement addressed to his ward chairman in Gambari 1, Ilorin East Local Government Area. This decision, made public on his verified Facebook page, follows months of tension regarding the APC's governorship primary, which selected Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the party's candidate for the 2027 elections.

Mustapha emphasized that his resignation was not made hastily but was the result of extensive consultations with political stakeholders and constituents. He expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunities he received during his tenure.
