Sanwo-Olu Advocates for Credible Elections Ahead of 2027

On Thursday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu addressed the seventh annual lecture of Freedom Online at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Ikeja, themed “2027 Elections: Economy, Security and Nigeria’s Future.” He stated that the future of Nigeria will not solely be determined by the January 16, 2027, presidential election but by how Nigerians and their leaders utilize the mandate produced. Sanwo-Olu noted that this election will mark the eighth consecutive presidential election since the return to democracy in 1999.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure preparedness for the elections and called on Nigerians to contribute to credible electoral processes. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the interconnection between security and economic stability, asserting that job creation is vital for security.

Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information and Culture, emphasized that the 2027 election should be viewed as a chance for nation-building, requiring consistency and cooperation to address security and economic challenges.
