1,303 Candidates Cleared for 2027 Senate Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the January 2027 National Assembly elections, revealing that 1,303 candidates will contest for 109 senatorial seats. The list shows a significant gender disparity, with 1,180 male candidates and only 123 female candidates.

Prominent figures include Senate President Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom North-West), Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North), and former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North). The list also features Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), among others.
