2027 Nigerian Elections: Candidates and Key Details

The Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027. Political parties are actively positioning their candidates for these elections, which are anticipated to be highly competitive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published a preliminary list of 19 presidential candidates and various governorship candidates across 28 states, with the number of candidates differing by state. Notably, Akwa Ibom State has 21 governorship candidates, surpassing the number of presidential candidates.

In Borno State, there are 10 candidates, while Delta State has seven, and Ebonyi State has 11 candidates. Enugu State features 15 candidates.

The current governors in some states, such as Bala Mohammed, are seeking re-election, while others, like Alex Otti, are also in the race. The lists are subject to change as there is still a window for candidate replacements.
