Sokoto PDP Chair Dismisses Goronyo's ADC Defection

Hayatu Tafida Aminu, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, has dismissed the defection of former state chairman Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it “not a surprise.” Goronyo resigned from the PDP on August 30, 2026, and was appointed Director-General of the ADC campaign organization for governorship candidate Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya shortly thereafter. Aminu accused Goronyo of operating as a member of the ADC while still serving as PDP chairman, claiming he had effectively abandoned the PDP months before his formal resignation.

Aminu stated that Goronyo's new role merely formalized an existing political relationship with the ADC. He also asserted that the factional crisis within the Sokoto PDP had been resolved, with his leadership recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the authentic structure of the party.

Aminu confirmed that they would not pursue legal action against Goronyo or his faction.
