APC Leader Advocates for PWD Rights and Representation

The APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities outlined a five-year commitment to engaging with the PWD community through advocacy and direct support. Initiatives included distributing relief materials, advocating for a national policy on free education and healthcare for PWDs, and pushing for a 75% tuition reduction for PWDs based on the FULAFIA model.

The leader emphasized the importance of representation over tokenism, advocating for specific legislative seats for qualified PWD members and supporting the 10% federal appointments for PWDs as per the 2018 Discrimination Against PWDs Act. The leader commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for its social protection efforts and the signing of the AU Charter on the rights of PWDs.

The first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was recognized for her support of PWDs. Despite progress, the leader noted that PWDs remain underrepresented in elective and appointive positions nationally.
