Tinubu Supporters Oppose Sheriff’s Campaign Role

On August 25, 2026, the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu Continuity issued a formal complaint to the APC National Chairman regarding Sheriff’s appointment as the North-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. Comrade Sani Ahmad Zangina, the National Chairman of the group, expressed commitment to Tinubu’s re-election but stated that they could not continue grassroots mobilization under the current arrangement due to longstanding allegations linking Sheriff to Boko Haram.

The group argued that these allegations could negatively affect public perception and undermine grassroots support in the region. Sheriff has denied any involvement with Boko Haram, calling the allegations unfounded.

The Grassroots Movement warned that it would suspend its mobilization efforts if Sheriff retained his position, urging the APC leadership to reconsider the appointment. The Nigeria Rescue & Renewal Movement also raised concerns about Sheriff’s role, calling for a review of the campaign council.
